Aloha, my name is Aaron Akua Collins. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I received my masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Argosy University in 2014.
I grew up in Puna, and commuted every day from Hawaiian Acres to Keaau and Hilo. I wanted to have a therapy practice that served my local community. And while we serve all of Hawaii, we are strategically located in Kurtistown, right in the heart of Puna on the Big Island.
Aaron's Specialty Areas:
Family Therapy: Family therapy involves looking at problems and solutions within the context of relationships. I help people better understand themselves within the relationships they are in.
Marriage Strengthening: Using the Gottman couples therapy method, I help couples who are wanting to strengthen their understanding and communication, resolve conflicts and improve relationships.
Anxiety, Stress, Trauma: I help individuals to process their emotions and experiences through developing coping skills, emotional regulation and grounding routines. I help individuals to identify the negative core beliefs that are keeping them stuck in negative cycles of thinking, feeling and behavioral situations.
EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing is a form of therapy for reducing the intensity of trauma events and helping clients move on to improved functioning and living.
Psycho-education and talk therapy: I try to provide a safe space for you to vent and express what you can't express in your normal life and relationships. I might just provide supportive listening, or I might help you build insight about a specific situation if you are looking for feedback.
Local, Kama'aina, Pidgin: I am a local boy, born and raised on the Big Island. I am able to relate to others who were born and raised in Hawaii and can provide understanding and therapeutic insights in a way that is culturally sensitive and easy going.
Christian: I am a christian and provide a safe space for other christians to process and discuss life challenges while also being understanding of the christian faith and spiritual values.

Hi my name is Kristi Efford and I am a Pre-Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at Akua Family Therapy. I earned my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Whitworth University. My journey toward becoming a therapist has been deeply influenced by my faith, my own personal obstacles and my empathy for individuals, couple’s and families facing emotional and spiritual challenges.
My therapeutic approach is client-centered, collaborative, and is viewed through a systemic lens. I believe that stable, healthy relationships and families create thriving communities.
In my clinical work I use therapeutic techniques such as Emotionally Focused Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy to meet each client's unique needs.

Couples & Sex Therapy: This specialized form of therapy focuses on addressing issues related to relationships, intimacy and sexual concerns.
Anxiety: Therapy to address anxiety is approached through evidence-based tools to help individuals understand, manage, and alleviate their anxiety symptoms.
Divorce care: A safe and empathetic space for people who are going through or have gone through the divorce process to share their experiences, gain insights, and develop coping skills.
Wounded by church or burned out in ministry: Therapy for individuals who have been wounded by the Christian church, often referred to as "faith-based trauma therapy".
Pre-marital Counseling: Pre-Marital counseling is designed to help create a foundation for a healthy marital relationship before you say, I do!
Parenting challenges: Therapy for parenting challenges is highly individualized.

Erotic Recovery: Ellie offers specialized erotic recovery sessions, helping couples explore and address any issues hindering their sexual satisfaction.
First Responders: We value and understand the unique challenges faced by first responders and their partners.
Co-parenting: I aim to help individuals and co-parenting teams overcome barriers to healthy and thriving co-parenting.
